This artwork by Jakob Philipp Hackert achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2017. In the Old Masters Evening Sale auction, the work Vesuvius, 12 January 1774 sold for GBP 156,250.00 (€ 175,836.49) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 80,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jakob Philipp Hackert - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Port of Salerno from Vietri, with herdsmen and other figures in the foreground, with the Castello di Arechi beyond and shipping vessels in the bay, which sold at auction in July 2015 for GBP 338,500.00 (€ 479,879.31).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 95 % übertroffen
