Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Jean-François Millet achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in April 2021. In the European Art auction, the work Portrait Of Madame Martin sold for USD 625,000.00 (€ 519,534.50) - well above the upper estimate of USD 300,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean-François Millet - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work L'Horizon (La plaine), which sold at auction in October 2014 for USD 1,985,000.00 (€ 1,584,197.92).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Jean-François Millet erzielte im April 2021 bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion European Art wurde die Arbeit Portrait Of Madame Martin für USD 625.000,00 (€ 519.534,50) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 300.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von Jean-François Millet mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit L'Horizon (La plaine) beobachtet, die im Oktober 2014 für USD 1.985.000,00 (€ 1.584.197,92) versteigert wurde.
