This artwork by Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2018. In the The Otto Naumann Sale auction, the work Viejo Castellano Sirviéndose Vino (The Old Man Of Castille) sold for USD 627,000.00 (€ 504,505.95) - well above the upper estimate of USD 300,000.00. Admittedly, works by Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Spanish pescadores Valencianos (Valencian Fishermen) in November 2012 with an auction result of GBP 3,737,250.00 (€ 4,603,912.82).

Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Spanish pescadores Valencianos (Valencian Fishermen) im November 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 3.737.250,00 (€ 4.603.912,82).
