Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Campylopterus Lazulus; Chrysolampis Moschitus; Delattria Clemenciae; Delattria Viridipallens; Eriocnemis Simplex; Erythronota Elegans; Eucephala Caerulea; Eugenes Fulgens; Eulampis Holosericeus; Lesbia Gouldi; Leucippus Fallax; and Calothorax Fanny by John Gould was sold in the Travel & Natural History auction at Christies in London in May 2007. The price achieved of GBP 2,640.00 (€ 3,884.94) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Gould achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Birds of Australia, [1840- 1848-1869, 8 volumes including Supplement|AID711784] in May last year with an auction result of GBP 302,400.00 (€ 355,744.81).
