Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In May 2002 Christies in Melbourne held the auction AUSTRALIAN AND INTERNATIONAL PAINTINGS, which included the work Flowers in Jug by Margaret Preston. The »bidding war« ended at AUD 7,050.00 (€ 4,272.73), 18% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Margaret Preston achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Australian Native Flowers, 1941, in April 2021 with an auction result of AUD 504,300.00 (€ 419,202.00).
