In May 2007 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work Harpo Marx Playing the Harp by Milton Avery. The »bidding war« ended at USD 60,000.00 (€ 44,599.72), 20% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Milton Avery achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Letter in May last year with an auction result of USD 6,069,500.00 (€ 5,656,043.24).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Mai 2007 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture durch, in der auch die Arbeit Harpo Marx Playing the Harp von Milton Avery zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 60.000,00 (€ 44.599,72) und damit 20% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Milton Avery erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Letter im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 6.069.500,00 (€ 5.656.043,24).
