This artwork by Pierre-Paul Prud'Hon achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in June 2012. In the Old Master Paintings auction, the work Lavinie Barbier-Walbonne, Later Baronne Darriule sold for USD 242,500.00 (€ 191,427.22) - well above the upper estimate of USD 120,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Pierre-Paul Prud'Hon; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait Of Madame Péan De Saint-Gilles sold at auction in January 2007 with the realized price of USD 456,000.00 (€ 350,823.20).
