Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Qi Baishi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in July 2003. In the Fine Modern and Contemporary Chinese Paintings auction, the work Shrimp sold for HKD 191,200.00 (€ 19,912.14) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 70,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Qi Baishi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Willows At The Riverside; Begonias in April 2012 with an auction result of HKD 70,100,000.00 (€ 6,830,365.11).
