In July last year Christies in London held the auction Old Master and British Works on Paper: Drawings, Watercolours and Prints 1500-1900, which included the work Man drawing from a Cast by Rembrandt van Rijn. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 3,780.00 (€ 4,513.99), 51% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Rembrandt van Rijn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a lady, aged 62, perhaps Aeltje Pietersdr. Uylenburgh, wife of Johannes Cornelisz. Sylvius, half-length, in black costume and a cap and collar in December 2000 with an auction result of GBP 19,803,750.00 (€ 31,547,196.55).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 51 % übertroffen
Im Juli letzten Jahres führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master and British Works on Paper: Drawings, Watercolours and Prints 1500-1900 durch, in der auch die Arbeit Man drawing from a Cast von Rembrandt van Rijn zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 3.780,00 (€ 4.513,99) und damit 51% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Rembrandt van Rijn erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of a lady, aged 62, perhaps Aeltje Pietersdr. Uylenburgh, wife of Johannes Cornelisz. Sylvius, half-length, in black costume and a cap and collar im Dezember 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 19.803.750,00 (€ 31.547.196,55).
