Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Praying to Mixe God, Oaxaca, Mexico, 1980 by Sebastião Salgado was auctioned at Christies in New York in April 2015, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 625.00 (€ 559.94). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Sebastião Salgado achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'Serra Pelada, Gold Mine, Brazil' in April 2021 with an auction result of USD 126,000.00 (€ 104,738.15).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Praying to Mixe God, Oaxaca, Mexico, 1980 von Sebastião Salgado im April 2015 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 625,00 (€ 559,94) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Sebastião Salgado erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit 'Serra Pelada, Gold Mine, Brazil' im April 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 126.000,00 (€ 104.738,15).
