Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of Mary Of Modena (1658-1718) by Simon Verelst was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2012, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 39,650.00 (€ 50,503.44). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Simon Verelst achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Roses, irises, poppies and other flowers in a glass vase on a ledge in January 2001 with an auction result of USD 523,000.00 (€ 561,882.25).
