In July 2018 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Day Sale, which included the work Portrait of a gentleman, half-length by Thomas Lawrence. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 68,750.00 (€ 77,083.87), 38% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Lawrence achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke of Wellington, K.G., K.B., M.P. (1769-1852), Bust-Length, In Civilian Clothes With A Military Cloak, Wearing The Insignia of The Order of The Golden Fleece in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 2,080,000.00 (€ 3,088,865.09).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 38 % übertroffen
Im Juli 2018 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Masters Day Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman, half-length von Thomas Lawrence zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 68.750,00 (€ 77.083,87) und damit 38% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Lawrence erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke of Wellington, K.G., K.B., M.P.
