Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Duchess, seated facing right in lace-bordered black dress with pink roses at corsage and in her hair, a blue stole over her arm; orange drapery background (cracked) by William Charles Ross was sold in the Objects of Vertu, Miniatures and Icons auction at Christies in London in May 2001. The price achieved of GBP 235.00 (€ 393.98) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 200.00 – 300.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Charles Ross achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Victoria, Princess Royal (1840-1901) As A Child, Holding The Long Blue Silk Ribbons Of Her Hat, In White Dress, Black Coat, Wearing A Blue-Lined Straw Hat Adorned With Black And Blue Ribbons On Her Curly Fair Hair; Landscape Background in November 2013 with an auction result of GBP 18,750.00 (€ 22,563.12).
