Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work Red Peonies and Butterflies by Wang Xuetao was worth HKD 882,000.00 (€ 105,694.90) to a buyer in December last year. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Modern and Contemporary Ink Paintings at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 200,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Wang Xuetao - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Flowers, which sold at auction in May 2016 for HKD 3,186,000.00 (€ 368,242.66).
