The work Portrait of Cao Xueqin by Wang Ziwu was worth USD 231,250.00 (€ 212,058.69) to a buyer in September 2019. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Paintings at Christies in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 13,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Wang Ziwu; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Li Bai and Chao Heng sold at auction in May this year with the realized price of HKD 3,150,000.00 (€ 377,562.42).
