In December 2008 Sothebys in London held the auction Marine Sale, which included the work A Lifeboat Off A Rocky Coastline by Vilhelm Melbye. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 15,000.00 (€ 15,754.36), 25% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Vilhelm Melbye - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Spanish felucca, British warships and other shipping in the Mediterranean off Gibraltar, which sold at auction in May 2012 for GBP 43,250.00 (€ 53,887.60).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 25 % übertroffen
Im Dezember 2008 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Marine Sale durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Lifeboat Off A Rocky Coastline von Vilhelm Melbye zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 15.000,00 (€ 15.754,36) und damit 25% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Vilhelm Melbye mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A Spanish felucca, British warships and other shipping in the Mediterranean off Gibraltar beobachtet, die im Mai 2012 für GBP 43.250,00 (€ 53.887,60) versteigert wurde.
