Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Portrait Herman Jan De Rouville De Meux by Willem Bastiaan Tholen was auctioned at Sothebys in Amsterdam in March 2007, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of EUR 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for EUR 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Willem Bastiaan Tholen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Billiards Player in July 2019 with an auction result of GBP 287,500.00 (€ 315,655.88).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A Portrait Herman Jan De Rouville De Meux von Willem Bastiaan Tholen im März 2007 bei Sothebys in Amsterdam versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von EUR 1.500,00 – 2.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für EUR 1.200,00 den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Willem Bastiaan Tholen erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Billiards Player im Juli 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 287.500,00 (€ 315.655,88).
