In May 2006 Christies in London held the auction British and Victorian Pictures, which included the work The Letter by William Oliver. The result of GBP 3,000.00 (€ 4,379.02) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Oliver - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Grand Canal, Venice, which sold at auction in November 2000 for GBP 7,637.50 (€ 12,483.19).
Zuschlag beim unteren Schätzpreis
Im Mai 2006 führte Christies in London die Auktion British and Victorian Pictures durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Letter von William Oliver zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 3.000,00 (€ 4.379,02) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von William Oliver mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit The Grand Canal, Venice beobachtet, die im November 2000 für GBP 7.637,50 (€ 12.483,19) versteigert wurde.
