Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Ottmoor Near Oxford by William Turner of Oxford was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2010, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 25,000.00 (€ 30,059.68). Other works by William Turner of Oxford have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in November 2003 by the work An April shower at GBP 31,070.00 (€ 44,601.44).
