Artwork auctioned at eight times the upper estimate price
When the work Seven-Character Couplet In Clerical Script by Wu Xizai was auctioned at China Guardian in Hong Kong in November 2016, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 5,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than eight times as high at HKD 44,840.00 (€ 5,464.05). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Wu Xizai achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Calligraphy In Seal Script in October 2014 with an auction result of HKD 3,776,000.00 (€ 388,750.20).
