Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price

When the work Iris And Butterfly by Zhang Daqian was auctioned at Sothebys in Hong Kong in May 2013, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 800,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at HKD 2,680,000.00 (€ 265,771.48). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Zhang Daqian achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Landscape after Wang Ximeng in April last year with an auction result of HKD 370,495,000.00 (€ 44,795,542.37).

Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert

Als die Arbeit Iris And Butterfly von Zhang Daqian im Mai 2013 bei Sothebys in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – HKD 800.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit HKD 2.680.000,00 (€ 265.771,48) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Zhang Daqian erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Landscape after Wang Ximeng im April letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 370.495.000,00 (€ 44.795.542,37).
