Description
ZHANG DAQIAN (1899-1983) Self-Portrait Scroll, mounted and framed, ink on paper 83.5 x 38 cm. (32 7 ⁄ 8 x 15 in.) Inscribed and signed, with one seal of the artist Dated summer, yisi year (1965) NOTE: The work was dedicated to Dr. Howard A. Rusk (1901-1989), the father of modern rehabilitation medicine, who was born in Brookfield, Missouri and received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1925. He established the first Air Force Rehabilitation Centre during World War II and later opened the Institute of Medical Rehabilitation at New York University. He served as its director for 33 years. He was also invited by Madame Soong Meiling (1898-2003) to establish a hospital in Taipei in 1964, which later became the Cheng Hsin General Hospital.
