between urban landscape and abstraction
Anna Fiegen works primarily with painting and printmaking. She removes urban architecture from its context and, using light and shadow, stages it in deserted landscapes of large, calm areas of colour in which the buildings, as traces of civilisation, become objects of projection and identification.
Anna Fiegen leaves room for painterly chance to unfold. She experiments with the materiality of oil paint in various states - sometimes liquid, sometimes impasto. She researches the architectural style epoch of modernism with a focus on utopian approaches such as brutalism.
