Artist Statement

Ulla Vibe is a self-taught photographer and trained educator. This combination gives her camera the playful and searching eyes of a child, with an intuitive sense of detail without control of the overall picture.
It is not the whole picture she is looking for, but the details. She explores. And discovers. The detail that makes sense in itself, without the meaning being obvious when you look at it.

It is about evoking moods, not photorealistic representations. About simple motifs that can contain more than the eye immediately sees. About how negative space can give the motif power and life. And about how cropping can leave an impression of timelessness.

She uses the photographer's toolbox in her own unique way and makes the motifs float by freeing them from their entirety. The selected section takes on a weightless life of its own. A standstill that attracts the eye and makes the mind wander.

The result is images that can make a wall more interesting. That can move the eye. That can start a train of thought. That can arouse wonder. That can provide aesthetic satisfaction. Or a challenge. Of the familiar. Ulla Vibe is a photographic artist, and it is her ability to see that makes her works worth seeing.

Jan Sverker - poet - from the yearbook ‘101 Artists’.

»It feels like she is holding a moment still, letting silence do the work. What stands out is the gentle tension between openness and that one bold note. The compositions breathes, the light feels soft and natural, and the restraint is confident. There is something very strong in the way she make so little say so much.

Her work carries a clear visual presence while still leaving space for interpretation, which is something we always look for when selecting artists we actively work with.«
