Auction result well in line with expectations

The work Portrait of the daughter of Dr. Karl A. von Maercker by Adolph Menzel was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 31,250.00 (€ 25,144.83) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Adolph Menzel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Stehende Rüstungen (aus der Folge der Rüstkammer-Phantasien). in November 2014 with an auction result of EUR 3,295,000.00.

Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen

Die Arbeit Portrait of the daughter of Dr. Karl A. von Maercker von Adolph Menzel kam im Januar 2018 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 30.000,00 – 50.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 31.250,00 (€ 25.144,83) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Adolph Menzel erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Stehende Rüstungen (aus der Folge der Rüstkammer-Phantasien). im November 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 3.295.000,00.
