Auction result well in line with expectations

The work Studies of Butterflies from Locupletissimi rerum naturalium thesauri by Albertus Seba was sold in the Travel & Natural History auction at Christies in London in May 2007. The price achieved of GBP 1,200.00 (€ 1,765.88) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Albertus Seba - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A group of five Studies of Reptiles and Botanicals, which sold at auction in February 2002 for USD 4,935.00 (€ 5,699.93).

Die Arbeit Studies of Butterflies from Locupletissimi rerum naturalium thesauri von Albertus Seba wurde im Mai 2007 in der Auktion Travel & Natural History bei Christies in London versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 1.200,00 (€ 1.765,88) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Albertus Seba mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit A group of five Studies of Reptiles and Botanicals beobachtet, die im Februar 2002 für USD 4.935,00 (€ 5.699,93) versteigert wurde.
