This artwork by Alexander Nasmyth achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2014. In the Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale auction, the work View Of Crosbie Castle In Ayrshire, With The Isle Of Arran Beyond sold for GBP 60,000.00 (€ 75,678.86) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 30,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Alexander Nasmyth; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot View of Dreghorn Castle, Midlothian, with figures and a hay cart in the foreground sold at auction in October 2005 with the realized price of GBP 72,000.00 (€ 106,178.24).
