Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Mr Victor Emanuel's Roulette in Rockingham Park, Salem, New Hampshire, U.S.A. (illustrated); and Mr Victor Emanuel's Rival in Rockingham Park by Algernon Talmage was sold in the SPORTING ART auction at Christies in London in December 2001. The price achieved of GBP 5,875.00 (€ 9,598.94) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Algernon Talmage - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Derby, 1931, which sold at auction in November 2001 for GBP 14,100.00 (€ 22,437.54).
