Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
The work Portrait of a merchant of the Levant Company in Turkish dress, seated on a Turkish carpet by Andrea Soldi was worth GBP 611,250.00 (€ 671,111.86) to a buyer in July 2019. This price was achieved in the auction Old Masters Evening Sale at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 100,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Andrea Soldi; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of a gentleman, possibly Richard Salwey, half-length, in a fur-trimmed red coat and a turban, leaning on a plinth sold at auction in December 2011 with the realized price of GBP 825,250.00 (€ 988,353.45).
