Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Andy Warhol achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in November 2012. In the Andy Warhol at Christie's Sold to Benefit the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts auction, the work Sunset sold for USD 37,500.00 (€ 28,823.98) - well above the upper estimate of USD 18,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Andy Warhol achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shot Sage Blue Marilyn in May last year with an auction result of USD 195,040,000.00 (€ 181,753,797.41).
