Despite a disappointment, a good price for Antonio Canova

When the work Maddalena Giacente (Recumbent Magdalene) Executed in 1819-22 by Antonio Canova was auctioned at Christies in London in July last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 5,000,000.00 – 8,000,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 4,800,000.00 (€ 5,732,052.54). Despite this disappointing result, Maddalena Giacente (Recumbent Magdalene) Executed in 1819-22 is the most expensive artwork by Antonio Canova that we have observed at auction so far.

Als die Arbeit Maddalena Giacente (Recumbent Magdalene) Executed in 1819-22 von Antonio Canova im Juli letzten Jahres bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus.
