Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Jean Cocteau couché avec le masque d'Antigone (variante), 1927 by Berenice Abbott was sold in the Avant-Garde: Photographs from the Shalom Shpilman Collection auction at Christies in London in September 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,687.17) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Berenice Abbott achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work New York At Night, 1932 in October 2013 with an auction result of USD 87,500.00 (€ 64,366.63).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Jean Cocteau couché avec le masque d'Antigone (variante), 1927 von Berenice Abbott wurde im September 2017 in der Auktion Avant-Garde: Photographs from the Shalom Shpilman Collection bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 3.250,00 (€ 3.687,17) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Berenice Abbott erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit New York At Night, 1932 im Oktober 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 87.500,00 (€ 64.366,63).
