Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2021 Bonhams in Hong Kong held the auction Southeast Asian Modern & Contemporary Art, which included the work Performers Applying Makeup (Opera Player) by Bui Xuan Phai. The price achieved of HKD 127,500.00 (€ 14,176.71) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as HKD 100,000.00 – 150,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Bui Xuan Phai achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Houses in May 2021 with an auction result of HKD 1,625,000.00 (€ 171,775.05).
