This artwork by Camille Souter achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2004. In the THE IRISH SALE auction, the work The Dead Basking Shark, Achill, waiting to be carved sold for GBP 13,742.50 (€ 20,618.81) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 6,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Camille Souter; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The two old Turnips sold at auction in May 2002 with the realized price of GBP 21,510.00 (€ 33,684.95).
