This artwork by Charles-François Daubigny achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in May 2018. In the European Art auction, the work French Le Verger sold for USD 137,500.00 (€ 117,823.48) - well above the upper estimate of USD 50,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Charles-François Daubigny; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Paysan à cheval, tirant une herse, près de Valmondois. sold at auction in June 2020 with the realized price of CHF 152,800.00 (€ 143,711.73).
