Upper estimate price exceeded by 76 %.
This artwork by Edward Lear achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in New York in September this year. In the 19th Century and British Impressionist Art auction, the work Akroteri from Khanea, Crete sold for GBP 14,080.00 (€ 14,080.00) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Edward Lear achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Kasr-es-Saiyyad in June 2007 with an auction result of GBP 938,400.00 (€ 1,392,538.40).
