Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
When the work Listen Up! by Ernie Barnes was auctioned at Christies in Hong Kong in May last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 1,200,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than six times as high at HKD 7,560,000.00 (€ 897,534.25). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ernie Barnes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Sugar Shack in May last year with an auction result of USD 15,275,000.00 (€ 14,234,460.91).
Kunstwerk zum Sechsfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Listen Up! von Ernie Barnes im Mai letzten Jahres bei Christies in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – HKD 1.200.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit HKD 7.560.000,00 (€ 897.534,25) mehr als sechsmal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ernie Barnes erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Sugar Shack im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 15.275.000,00 (€ 14.234.460,91).
