Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work El elefante by Francisco Toledo was auctioned at Christies in New York in November 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 800,000.00 – 1,200,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 615,000.00 (€ 558,126.87). Other works by Francisco Toledo have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in November 2019 by the work A Meu Xubi at USD 1,040,000.00 (€ 943,824.30).
