Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Australian Cottlesbridge by Fred Williams was auctioned at Sothebys in Melbourne in May 2009, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of AUD 22,000.00 – 28,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for AUD 19,200.00 (€ 10,864.05). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Fred Williams achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Australian Hillside I, 1965 in August 2007 with an auction result of AUD 1,920,000.00 (€ 1,148,115.24).
