Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of a young girl, traditionally identified as 'Miss Marchbanks of Bushey' by George Chinnery was auctioned at Christies in New York in May this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 6,048.00 (€ 7,036.89). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Chinnery achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Reeves Macao Album, 1836-1837 in July 2006 with an auction result of GBP 332,800.00 (€ 487,180.19).
