Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Vessels in the mouth of an estuary by George Callow was auctioned at Christies in London in August 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 293.75 (€ 468.90). Admittedly, works by George Callow have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Fisherfolk conversing at the end of the day in May 2001 with an auction result of GBP 1,762.50 (€ 2,954.87).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Vessels in the mouth of an estuary von George Callow im August 2001 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 300,00 – 500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 293,75 (€ 468,90) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von George Callow auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Fisherfolk conversing at the end of the day im Mai 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 1.762,50 (€ 2.954,87).
