Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of the artist (?), half-length, in a brown coat with red collar and red hat by George Jones was auctioned at Christies in New York in June 2002, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 298.75 (€ 303.11). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Jones achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Battle of Waterloo in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 56,250.00 (€ 79,743.61).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait of the artist (?), half-length, in a brown coat with red collar and red hat von George Jones im Juni 2002 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000,00 – 2.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 298,75 (€ 303,11) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von George Jones erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Battle of Waterloo im Juli 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 56.250,00 (€ 79.743,61).
