Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Antinoüs, a chestnut racehorse, in a landscape by George Stubbs was sold in the Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings & Watercolours Evening Sale auction at Christies in London in December 2009. It achieved a price of GBP 361,250.00 (€ 407,502.70), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 20%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Stubbs achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Gimcrack on Newmarket Heath, with a trainer, a jockey and a stable lad in July 2011 with an auction result of GBP 22,441,250.00 (€ 25,754,691.64).
