Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Summer Rain by Howard Hodgkin was auctioned at Phillips in London in March this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 500,000.00 – 700,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 292,100.00 (€ 332,320.17). Admittedly, works by Howard Hodgkin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Goodbye to the Bay of Naples in October 2017 with an auction result of GBP 1,688,750.00 (€ 1,925,505.56).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Summer Rain von Howard Hodgkin im März diesen Jahres bei Phillips in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 500.000,00 – 700.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 292.100,00 (€ 332.320,17) den Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Howard Hodgkin auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Goodbye to the Bay of Naples im Oktober 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 1.688.750,00 (€ 1.925.505,56).
