This artwork by Ilya Repin achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2016. In the Russian Art auction, the work Father Matvei sold for GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,129.66) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ilya Repin achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Parisian Café in June 2011 with an auction result of GBP 4,521,250.00 (€ 5,001,922.73).
