Auction result misses estimated price range
In October 2019 a collector was able to acquire the work A wicker basket of roses, peonies, tulips and other flowers with a silver gilt tazza and flowers and a butterfly and other insects on a stone ledge strewn with carnations by Jan Breughel II for USD 68,750.00 (€ 61,631.56). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master Paintings and Sculpture at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Breughel II achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Five Senses: Sight, Touch, Hearing, Taste and Smell in November last year with an auction result of USD 8,634,000.00 (€ 8,363,847.72).

Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion Old Master Paintings and Sculpture bei Christies in New York erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von USD 80.000,00 – 120.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jan Breughel II erzielen.
