Upper estimate price exceeded by 25 %.
In April 2016 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Masters, which included the work Peasants Drinking And Cutting Tobacco In An Inn by Jan Steen. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 8,750.00 (€ 11,185.10), 25% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Steen achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Prayer Before The Meal in December 2012 with an auction result of GBP 5,641,250.00 (€ 6,957,227.93).
