Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work A winter landscape with villagers skating on a frozen river and wood-gatherers with a horse and wagon in the foreground, a castle beyond by Jan-Pieter van Bredael was auctioned at Christies in Amsterdam in May 2004, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at - in retrospect quite modest - EUR 12,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at EUR 53,775.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jan-Pieter van Bredael; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A river landscape with peasants merrymaking beside a cottage; and A village landscape with peasants merrymaking outside an inn sold at auction in July 2004 with the realized price of GBP 35,850.00 (€ 54,177.24).

Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – EUR 12.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit EUR 53.775,00 mehr als viermal so hoch. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Jan-Pieter van Bredael; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit A river landscape with peasants merrymaking beside a cottage; and A village landscape with peasants merrymaking outside an inn im Juli 2004 mit dem Hammerpreis von GBP 35.850,00 (€ 54.177,24).
