Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Flower studies from The Ladies' Flower-Garden of Ornamental Annuals by Jane Wells Loudon was auctioned at Christies in London in August 2011, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 400 – 600, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 100 (€ 113). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jane Wells Loudon achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Ladies' Flower Garden of Ornamental Annuals. London: William Smith, 1840. 4° (270 x 201mm). 48 hand-coloured lithographic plates with over 300 figures of plants by Day & Haghe after Mrs. Loudon. Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Flower studies from The Ladies' Flower-Garden of Ornamental Annuals von Jane Wells Loudon im August 2011 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 400,00 – 600,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 100,00 (€ 112,93) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jane Wells Loudon erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Ladies' Flower Garden of Ornamental Annuals.
