In January 2010 Christies in New York held the auction Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings, & Watercolors, which included the work The Watchful Doe ('Biche aux Augets') by Jean-Baptiste Oudry. The »bidding war« ended at USD 1,082,500.00 (€ 780,461.43), 20% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jean-Baptiste Oudry - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Album containing a frontispiece and 138 illustrations for books I to VI of the Fables of Jean de La Fontaine, which sold at auction in January this year for USD 2,700,000.00 (€ 2,486,645.79).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Januar 2010 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings, & Watercolors durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Watchful Doe ('Biche aux Augets') von Jean-Baptiste Oudry zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 1.082.500,00 (€ 780.461,43) und damit 20% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Jean-Baptiste Oudry mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Album containing a frontispiece and 138 illustrations for books I to VI of the Fables of Jean de La Fontaine beobachtet, die im Januar diesen Jahres für USD 2.700.000,00 (€ 2.486.645,79) versteigert wurde.
